Renato Auditore[1] was the only son of the Assassin Domenico Auditore and his wife. Renato was aboard his father's ship when it was boarded by pirates under the employ of the Knights Templar, who sought the Codex of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, which was in his father's possession.[2]
After his mother's murder, Renato and his father were thrown overboard. The two managed to reach the shore alive, and the next day happened upon the corpse of his mother. Traveling by land, they made their way to Florence. Using Marco Polo's bank account, Domenico rented a small room for his son, before traveling to Venice to meet with his father and patron. When his father returned, the two adopted the name of 'Auditore', impersonating a local noble, and were accepted as a part of the city's nobility.[2]
Domenico subsequently purchased and renovated what would become the Villa Auditore in Monteriggioni.[3] Renato soon begun to train for his life as an Assassin; killer of the Knights Templar, just as his father was.[2]
Trivia
- Although never named in Assassin's Creed II, Renato (Italian, Portuguese and Spanish form of Latin Renatus, meaning "reborn") was named and identified as the grandfather of Giovanni Auditore da Firenze in the Abstergo Files that accompanied Assassin's Creed: Revelations Multiplayer campaign.
