The Pyrrha Salt Pirates was a small bandit camp within old ruins by the sea in the Hot Gates of Thermopylai in Malis, Greece.
During the Peloponnesian War, the bandits stole the tools of Kallipides, an elderly blacksmith living in Alponos. Soon after, the camp was infiltrated by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who slew the leader of the bandits, freed their captives, and reclaimed Kallipides' tools.[1]
Trivia
- The name of the place references Pyrrha, a woman in Greek mythology, who fled with her husband Deukalion aboard an ark the flood brought about by the god Zeus. Her name is derived from the Greek word πῠρρός (purrhós), meaning 'red, flame-colored'.
