Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Russian: Пётр Ильич Чайковский; Ukrainian: Петро Ильич Чайковский; 1840 – 1893), often anglicized as Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky, was a Russian composer who rose to prominence during the late Romantic period of Russia.
His time was marked by the assassination of Tsar Alexander II of Russia in 1881 by the Polish Assassin Ignacy Hryniewiecki.
