Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (7 May 1840 – 6 November 1893) was a Russian composer who rose to prominence during the late Romantic period of Russia.
His time was marked by the assassination of Tsar Alexander II of Russia in 1881 by Ignacy Hryniewiecki.
