Puducherry, also known as Pondichéry, was one of the five settlements of French India.
During the Seven Years' War, Colonial Templar Shay Cormac sent weapons to Puducherry with the aim of sowing discord among the local population and unseat the French.[1] With their initial shipment of arms allowing rebellion to take hold, Shay sent additional weapons to "keep it going".[2]
