Portcestre was a medieval fortress in Sussex, England, located by the Embert River. During the Anglo-Saxon period, it served as one of the strongholds of the Kingdom of Wessex.
History
Circa 875, Portcestre served as the main base of operations of the Order of the Ancients Maegester Fulke, where she used to hold Sigurd Styrbjornsson hostage while torturing him to bring out his "true form".[1] Sigurd's adopted sister Eivor and the Hidden One Basim were able to locate the fort's location while pursuing Fulke in Saint Hadrian's Priory a year before.[2]
After rounding up her allies and friends, Eivor led a siege of the fortress, managing to rescue Sigurd within a church building. Eivor then pursued Fulke through the fortress tunnels, eventually confronting and killing her.[1]
Behind the scenes
Portcestre is a location in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. In place of the actual city, the castle is depicted in the game instead.
