Plutarch (c. 46 – c. 120), also known as Lucius Mestrius Plutarchus once he became a Roman citizen, was a Greek priest, philosopher and writer. He is best remembered for Parallel Lives, in which he coupled several biographies of notable Greeks, each with a Roman counterpart.

During the early 16th century, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze bought a copy of this book from a book shop in Constantinople.
