The facade of the Pharsalos Fort

Pharsalos Fort was a military fort located in Valley of the Nymph region of Phokis, Greece.

History

In 431 BCE, knowing that the Spartan misthios Kassandra would come after him, Elpenor, a member of the Eyes of Kosmos branch of the Cult of Kosmos, hired a decoy to hide in the fort. Elpenor had also ordered his decoy to kill Kassandra, "so-called messenger of the gods", and to meet him afterwards in the cave behind the Snake Ruins in Valley of the Snake.[1]

Kassandra did infiltrate the fort, killing the decoy in addition to the polemarch and the captains there, claiming their riches. On the decoy, she discovered Elpenor's letter, leading her straight to him.[1]

Trivia

  • The name of the fort references the Thessalian city of Farsala, which was in antiquity known as Pharsalos.
