A standard pepperbox pistol.

A pepperbox pistol is a type of firearm which consists of more than two barrels positioned around a central axis. Like other volley guns before the invention of self-loading mechanism, it was developed so that more than one round can be fired from the pistol before needing to be reloaded. These guns were a natural evolution of double-barreled pistols.[1][2]
