Palermo is a city in southern Italy, capital of both the autonomous island region of Sicily and the Province of Palermo. During the Renaissance, the Assassins and Templars waged a war for control of the city.

Originally ruled over by the Greeks, the island of Sicily (and Palermo within it) eventually came under Roman, Arabian, Byzantine, Noman, Imperial, French, Spanish and eventually Italian rule. During the events of Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the city was part of the Spanish Crown of Aragon, and the Templars and Assassins contended over its control.
