Orthstirr was the personal war hammer of the Viking King Halfdan Ragnarsson.

History

At the age of fourteen, Halfdan received Orthstirr as a gift from his father Ragnar Lothbrok, who had taken it from the body of a Finnish chief he had slain in retaliation for the murder of Halfdan's mother Lagertha.[1] Ever since, Orthstirr rarely left Halfdan's hand and became his signature weapon, which he enjoyed throwing at his enemies,[2] similarly to how Halfdan's past incarnation, Thor, was known to throw his hammer Mjölnir.[3]

In 876, after becoming King of Northumbria and learning of his trusted advisor Faravid's deceit,[4] Halfdan continued to feel unwell and even depressed about those he lost, especially upon hearing the news of his brother Ivarr's death. Venturing with his dog Beonton to Picheringa, he misplaced Orthstirr. With the help of his ally Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, Halfdan regained both his hammer and his resolve to return to rule Northumbria.[1]
