The Olympic Truce is a tradition of the Olympic Games, an agreement to protect both the host region of Greece, Elis, as well as the participants and spectators of the events from violence.

The truce covered the whole of the Valley of Olympia, being enforced especially within the Sanctuary of Olympia, and any illegal activity witnessed was heavily punished. Some, like the Cult of Kosmos, observed the truce to be a threat to their plans, and made attempts to disrupt it. The most glaring of these attempts was the poisoning of the participants in the celebration hosted by the Olympic judges Kallias and Demophanes within the Leonidaion during the 428 BCE Olympics.[1]
