Odda was a 9th century ealdorman of Devon. He is known for his victory at the Battle of Cynwit in 878, where his West Saxon forces defeated a Viking army led by Ubba, brother of the Viking chiefs Ivarr the Boneless and Halfdan Ragnarsson.

Biography

In January of 878, after being given an order by his king Alfred of Wessex, Odda mobilized his men and attacked Ubba and his army who were encamped near Uffentune along the Afon river. Odda's men killed the Vikings and their leader Ubba, who took several spears to finally kill.[1]
