Khaliset, a Nubian member of the Order of the Ancients

The Nubians are an African people who lived mainly in a region along the Nile that is now the southern part of Egypt and the northern part of Sudan. In modern times, descendants of the ancient Nubians still live in the same area.[1]

Notable members

In the 1st century BCE, the Order of the Ancients operating in the Ptolemaic Kingdom counted two people of Nubian descent among their members,[2] the tomb raider Khaliset[3] and the Letopolian steward Taharqa.[4] Another member was Kensa, a former slave turned gladiator[5] who was later recruited into the Egyptian Hidden Ones by her old friend and the Hidden Ones' co-founder Bayek.[6]

History

After many wars waged by the Kingdom of Kush, Egypt was ruled by Piye the Nubian. He established the Twenty-fifth dynasty in 744 BC and ruled until his death in 714 BC.[7] Between 702 and 690 BCE, Piye's son Shabataka ruled over Egypt using a Staff of Eden.[8]

In August 1176, Nubian warriors joined Saladin in his invasion effort against the Assassins in Masyaf.[9] However, despite his army, his siege was short-lived after Saladin was intimidated into retreat when the Master Assassin Umar Ibn-La'Ahad proved that a lone agent could easily enter his tent despite his defenses.[10]
