The Naxian Sphinx is a marble statue of a Sphinx within the Sanctuary of Delphi in Phokis, Greece, placed southeast of the Temple of Apollo.
It was consecrated by the Naxians as a votive in memory of their privilege to consult with the Pythia before the others.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the statue was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
Trivia
- The model of this statue is widely used throughout Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, including as a figurehead for the ship Adrestia.
