Naval cannon

The Naval Cannon in action.

The Naval Cannon was one of the four War machines that were designed by Leonardo da Vinci for the Borgia, before being destroyed by the Assassin Ezio Auditore.

Usage

The Naval Cannon was similar to a regular cannon, but projected fire balls at an arched angle in order to cause wide-ranged damage. To fire the cannon, one had to pull a lever near to it, though the cannon itself was meant to be powered by two people, one by steering the gondola and the other to fire it.

However, Ezio managed to use the Naval Cannon by himself with relative ease, simply by switching between the roles whenever he needed to.

Placement

The cannon was placed on a small boat (which appeared to be a widened gondola with stabilizers) so that it could be piloted around a harbor in Napoli. From there, it was used by Ezio to destroy four Templar battleships by setting fire to their sails, and once he had destroyed them, Ezio aimed the cannon towards the boat itself and dived into the water before it was destroyed in a fiery explosion.

Trivia

• Successfully using and destroying the Naval Cannon grants the player the "Splash!" achievement.
• Miniature replicas of all the War machines can be found at the Armory in Ezio's hideout after completing their respective memories.
• A small oversight can be observed in the final moments of the memory. Though the Naval Cannon (while usable) will fire immediately when Ezio pulls the firing lever, whilst he is aiming it at itself to destroy it, there is a minute delay before it actually fires. This most likely deliberate, to give Ezio the time to escape the device's destruction.
