Nanno the Abakos (died c. 420s BCE) was an Athenian mercenary who operated in Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
Born in the city-state of Athens, Nanno had an interest and love for mathematics, so much so that her parents predicted she would pursue a career in working at a treasury in the city. However, she decided to forge a career out of being a mercenary, using her knowledge of mathematics to count and keep track of her kills on her personal abacus during her travels.[1]
Eventually, during the war, a bounty contract was placed on Nanno, seeking to have her eliminated. The contract was later accepted by the misthios Kassandra, who tracked down Nanno and eliminated her.[2]
