== Trivia ==
* The portrayal of NKVD in ''[[Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia]]'' is highly fictionalized, as the actual agency itself wasn't formed until July 10 of 1934 as a successor of Joint State Political Directorate, which in turn was a successor of All-Russian Extraordinary Commission (commonly known as Cheka), the actual bolshevik secret-police organization that was active during Russian Revolution and Civil War, whose actual predecessors were bolshevik Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee and tsarist Okhrana Guard Department.

The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs, abbreviated NKVD, was the law enforcement agency of the Soviet Union. It was founded in April 1917 as the direct successor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[1] Falling under the direct control of the Communist Party,[1] it was also a part of the Red Army.
