The Merchants' Quarters

The Merchants' Quarters were the living residence for the merchants of Azuchi in Ōmi, Japan.

History[edit | edit source]

In the spring of 1581, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke arrived at the quarters and met with Yasuke's friend and Jesuit priest Luís Fróis, who spoke with them about his writings. After retelling his works of Japan's dancing, poetry, and child upbringing, Fróis did mention his worries about his texts being used wrongly before parting Naoe and Yasuke with a prayer of good wishes.[1]
