Gameplay
History
The Mediterranean Defense minigame consists of thirteen cities, each having a certain ratio of Templar and Assassin control. Contracts can be fulfilled to decrease Templar control or reclaim the city for the Assassins. Once a city is liberated from Templar control, it will provide regular money, XP, and ingredient rewards. Apprentices can fulfill further contracts to improve daily income, recruit new assassins, and add new bomb ingredients for purchase at Piri Reis. Templar control will always gradually increase, requiring Ezio to fulfill occasional contracts to maintain control of the city.
During the early 16th century, the Mentor of the Italian Assassins, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, could send his apprentices to Templar-controlled cities. The apprentices gained experience from these missions, and the Assassin Order as a whole gained money and other rewards for the mission as well. Cities could also be liberated from Templar control and subsequently improved using further missions. Specific cities also including special contracts that adds new bomb ingredients for purchase at Piri Reis.

Apprentices can be permanently stationed in the city. This will decrease the rate at which Templar control grows, increase the maximum ratio of Assassin control in that city (depending on their level), provide regular XP rewards to the stationed assassins, and free slots to recruit new assassins. Stationed assassins are no longer available for other parts of the game, though they can be dispatched to contracts within their own city (except the first) or recalled.
After a city is reclaimed by the Assassins, it will contain new contracts to improve daily income and recruit new assassins. Note that contracts must be completely regularly to maintain the Assassin's control in the city, should the control be too low, Templars will try to retake the city and you will have to complete a contract named defending the city in order to gain back its full access.

If Assassin control in a reclaimed city falls to low, the Templars will attempt to retake it. Assassin apprentices must fulfill a new Defending the City contract to regain access to the city.
The cities that Ezio was able to send his recruits to were:
*Marseille
*Damascus
*Jerusalem
*Madrid
*Lisbon
*Genoa
*Tunis
*Tripoli
*Algiers
*Alexandria
*Bursa
*Athens
*Rhodes

Contracts
Trivia
Each contract has a difficulty (ranging from one to six stars) which affects the probability of success; the probability can be increased by assigning higher-level or additional assassins. If a contract fails, the assassins assigned to that contract may die.
*There is an achievement in Assassin's Creed: Revelations for controlling all of the cities simultaneously except Rhodes.

*Managing Assassin Guilds in reclaimed cities is the easiest method of removing Assassins should you wish to recruit more apprentices.
Most contracts are random and can be fulfilled any number of times, but a few are unique (recognizable by the stars in their difficulty meter). Unique contracts often cost money to fulfill, but confer handy rewards (such as bomb ingredients, an additional assassin station slot, or additional money and XP rewards).

Cities
Ezio can send his apprentices to Algiers, Alexandria, Athens, Bursa, Damascus, Genoa, Jerusalem, Lisbon, Madrid, Marseille, Tripoli, Tunis, and Rhodes. (Rhodes is locked until the player has played every multiplayer Rhodes map.)

Bugs
* A city may disappear from the list after defending it from Templar takeover. This appears to happen when there was a contract being fulfilled at the time. The city should reappear when the contract is completed.

The Mediterranean Defense game.

Mediterranean Defense was the name given to the apprentice contracts in Constantinople during the Renaissance.[1]

History

During the early 16th century, the Mentor of the Italian Assassins, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, could send his apprentices to Templar-controlled cities. The apprentices gained experience from these missions, and the Assassin Order as a whole gained money and other rewards for the mission as well. Cities could also be liberated from Templar control and subsequently improved using further missions. Specific cities also including special contracts that adds new bomb ingredients for purchase at Piri Reis.

Trivia

 • There is an achievement in Assassin's Creed: Revelations for controlling all of the cities simultaneously except Rhodes.[1]
 • Managing Assassin Guilds in reclaimed cities is the easiest method of removing Assassins should you wish to recruit more apprentices.
