Masahito (18 October 1127 – 26 April 1192) was the 77th emperor of Japan, reigning as Emperor Go-Shirakawa from 1155 until he was deposed in 1158. In 1180, the Tōdai-ji temple was razed to the ground in the midst of the Genpei War, greatly upsetting the former emperor.[1]
