Margaret of York, Duchess of Burgundy (3 May 1446 – 23 November 1503) – also known as Margaret of Burgundy by marriage – was a daughter of Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, and Cecily Neville.

Biography

Early life

Margaret was born at Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire, and became Duchess of Burgundy as the third wife of Charles the Bold and acted as a protector of the Duchy after his death. She was also the sister of two Kings of England, Edward IV and Richard III.

Work as a Templar

Margaret of York was a member of the Templar Order and took part in an attempt to overthrow King Henry VII alongside Lambert Simnel and Perkin Warbeck. However, the plot ended in failure, and Simnel was imprisoned and Warbeck hanged. Henry was not able to pursue Margaret, however, as she had family ties to the Holy Roman Emperor. Later, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze sent his apprentices to Henry VII, offering him Margaret's death.
