Marco Polo (1254 - 8 January 1324) was a merchant for the Venetian Republic of Italy. He learned trading from his father, Niccolò Polo, and his uncle, Maffeo Polo.
Marco was an ally of the Assassin Order, which included Dante Alighieri and Domenico Auditore's father. Marco hired Domenico as a sailor on his journeys, probably to keep him safe from Templars. Later, he and Domenico's father put him under the guidance of Dante, who trained him to be an Assassin.
Marco later traveled to Asia, where he met Kublai Khan and visited the palace of Genghis Khan, acquiring Altaïr's Codex, which he later brought back to Italy.
