Mae was an Anglo-Saxon girl who lived in England with her father during the 9th century.
Biography
During her travels in Ledecestrescire, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir found Mae alone on a farm southwest of Alcestre Monastery starting at a mostly leafless tree. She soon learned the girl's father had went away to Lincoln in search of work and told her he would return before the tree had shed all its leaves. However, by the time Eivor encountered Mae, six months had passed since her father left, with not a word heard from him and only one leaf still attached to the tree. Realizing the unspoken truth about what likely happened to Mae's father, Eivor knocked the leaf from the tree in effort to make Mae move past her grief.[1]
Some time after, Eivor found the dead body of Mae's father beneath the bridge south of Lincoln with an arrow in his back and a fallen letter addressed to Mae beside him. In it, he said he had not found any work, adding in purposefully vague manner that he had done something he was ashamed of which required him to stay hidden for a time.[1]
