The Lindisfarne raid was an early Viking military expedition that occurred in a Northumbrian island off the northeastern coast of England in 793. Although it may not have been the first Viking raid, nevertheless it marked the beginning of the Norse expansion across Europe.[1]

History

During the raid, an unidentified Viking raider fought against and defeated a Saxon warrior, whom he offered the chance to join his clan. However, the Saxon, overcome with grief, cried out that God had abandoned his people and that nothing remained but chaos. Pitying him, the Viking raider killed the Saxon without a second thought.[1] Sometime in or before 2014, the raid was relived by his descendant Juhani Otso Berg.[1]
