Lichas was a painter living on Naxos Island, Greece, during the 5th century BCE.
Biography[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, Lichas was commissioned by the Archon of Paros to paint propaganda graffiti on the walls of the city of Naxos, to turn people against the oligarch of the island, Phoenix. These graffiti drew the interest of the visiting Spartan misthios Kassandra. She wanted to find the artist behind the works, and the local art merchant Agellos helped her by directing her towards the caves near Routsouna Waterfall.[1]
Within the caves, Kassandra found Lichas practicing his craft, and dealt with him, learning the details behind his deeds.[1]
