Kaddar is a novice assassin and Malik's younger brother. From the opening scene, it is evident that Kaddar admires Altair. This may be an additional reason why Malik is jealous of Altair and is so embittered toward him for his brother's death. Malik doesn't need any more reasons to hate Altair, but it added fuel to his anger.

It is entirely possible that Kaddar was not killed in Jerusalem, but was the hostage Robert de Sable brought with him to Masyaf and had killed in front of all the assassins before the Leap of Faith was performed. Malik may have assumed Kaddar died there, but we are never told for certain if he actually saw Kaddar killed in the Temple.
