Joseph-Napoléon Bonaparte (7 January 1768 – 28 July 1844), born Giuseppe Buonaparte, was a French diplomat and nobleman, as well as the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. He reigned as King of Spain from 1808 to 1813 as José I.

In 1808, Napoleon invaded Spain and Joseph was made King. He was welcomed by Spanish Francophiles, who believed collaboration with France would bring modernization, liberty and the abolition of the Spanish Inquisition.
