John Washington (1633 – 1677) was an English Virginia planter and politician. He was also the great-grandfather of Lawrence and George Washington, the first President of the United States.

In 1674, John bought land near the Potomac River along with his friend, Nicholas Spencer. In 1690, their heirs split the land, leaving the Washington family with the portion running along Little Hunting Creek. The Washingtons' land later became known as Mount Vernon.[1]
