James, son of Zebedee (c. 3 CE – 44 CE) was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, traditionally considered the first apostle to be martyred.

After James' death, a section of his golden staff, believed to be part of a Staff of Eden ended up in the possession of a group of monks in the Asturias mountains in Spain.[1] The monks handed the piece to the Galician nobleman Pedro Madruga, who hid it in the Sobroso Castle.[2]
