Jacques Alexandre César Charles (November 12, 1746 – April 7, 1823), better known as Jacques Charles, was a French inventor.
In 1783, Charles launched the world's first hydrogen filled balloon from the Tuileries' garden in front of an audience of 400,000 people.[1]
