"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."
―Oppenheimer, reflecting on the atomic bomb's first test, 1965.[src]

Julius Robert Oppenheimer (1904 – 1967) was an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley.

Biography

He is best known for his role as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project during World War II.[1] In the summer of 1945, Abstergo Industries authorized the tests for Oppenheimer's atomic bomb, intending to end the war with a nuclear explosion to bring the turmoil necessary to build a new world.[2] On 16 July, the first successful test of the atomic bomb was dropped at the air base at Alamogordo, New Mexico.[1]

In 1965, when asked to reflect on what went through his head at the time of the explosion, Oppenheimer quoted a verse from the Bhagavad Gita (XI,32): kālo'smi lokakṣayakṛtpravṛddho lokānsamāhartumiha pravṛttaḥ, which he translated as "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."[3]

Legacy

In 2012, Oppenheimer's involvement in the creation of the atomic bomb along with his unwitting affiliation with Abstergo Industries was compiled in a glyph puzzled named after his famous quote by the late Assassin Clay Kaczmarek, put there for his successor, Desmond Miles to find.[2] Which he did in September of that year.[4] Some time later, more information was gathered by the Initiates and detailed in a publicly hosted Database.[2]
