Isokrates (436 BCE – 338 BCE) was an Athenian rhetorician, considered as one of the most infuential rhetoricians of all of time.

Greatly influenced by his sophist teachers Protagoras and Gorgias, Isokrates was also associated with the philosopher Sokrates.[1] Isokrates, like Plato and Sokrates, preferred a more moral approach and argued that rhetoric should be used as a means to serve the greater good, as compared to sophists who used an approach based on excellence.[2]
