The Iron Gate was one of the gates of Baghdad, located in the northwest of the Harbiyah district. It was also known as the Damascus Gate for the road out of the gate leads to the city of Damascus in the Levant.
In the 860s, the gate and the surrounding area including the Damascus Gate Prison was visited by the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq, who came to locate the Zanj rebel leader Ali ibn Muhammad.[1]
