The Hospitalier Fortress was a location in Acre during the Third Crusade.

History

The Fortress was owned by the Hospitalier faction of the Crusaders, who used it as a hospital and military quarters. It was located at the north of the Poor District, and was where Garnier de Naplouse both oversaw and experimented on patients, before being assassinated by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad in 1191.

Building

The building is available to walk through. Just behind the entrance is a courtyard made out of stone, with a well in the center. The inner fortress is accessible from either the left or the right and is filled with many heavily guarded hospital beds, as well as a few wandering civilians. Some of the beds and operating tables contain corpses on them. Outside, a stone Catholic cross sits in front of the courtyard, overlooking some stairs.

Trivia

  • Just west of the Fortress, there is a herald who speaks of "overcoming tests," which is of course ironic given that experiments and torture are conducted just down the street.
  • In the poor district, it is possible to overhear rumors of what goes on inside the building, which is likely due to heavy guarding and limited access.
  • A view point is located atop the fortress' tower.
