Guru Ram Das (1534 – 1581) was the fourth of the ten Gurus of Sikhism.
He was widely credited as being the founder of what later became the city Amritsar, having named it after a sacred lake constructed in 1574. He also chose the site and ordered the construction of the Harmandir Sahib, commonly known as the "Golden Temple" in the city in 1581 before he died in the same year. He was later succeeded by Arjan[1]
