Pope Gregory I (c. 540 – 12 March 604), born Gregorius Anicius and commonly known as Saint Gregory the Great, was Pope from 590 to his death.

During his papacy, Gregory built the Santa Maria in Vallicella, a cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria in Vallicella.[1]
