Grand Temple of Apollo

The Grand Temple of Apollo was the largest of the three temples dedicated to the Greek god Apollo, located on the island of Delos in Greece. Outside of it was the Colossus of the Naxians, a giant statue of Apollo.

History

The construction of the temple began when the island became the seat of the Delian League between 475 and 450 BCE. Built on top of the akropolis of Sanctuary of Apollo, the temple also laid on top of an ancient tomb.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War the temple was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who claimed the valuables within the temple.[1]
