Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (1813 – 1901) was an Italian composer and senator best known for his operas.[1]
Biography
In November 1869, Giuseppe Verdi was commissioned by Khedive Ismail Pasha of Egypt to compose a new opera for the inauguration of the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, though due to the Franco-Prussian War it could not be completed in time, with Verdi's Rigoletto being performed instead.[2] The commissioned opera, Aida, would debut in the Opera House two years later, in January 1871.[3]
