Giovanni Mocenigo (1409 - 14 September 1485) was Doge of Venice from 1478 to 1485. During his life, he had fought with Mohammed II and Ercole I d'Este, the duke of Ferrara.

Description

Doge Mocenigo was close with Carlo Grimaldi, who was in secret a Templar. At a Templar meeting, Carlo received the order to kill Mocenigo from Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Templars.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze overheard this meeting and broke into the Palazzo Ducale using Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine. However, Grimaldi had already poisoned Mocenigo. As Mocenigo began to cough up blood, Ezio followed Carlo into the courtyard of the palace and killed him, avenging the Doge. Miraculously, the Doge managed to stumble into the courtyard. Delirious now, he yelled, "You...You killed me? You killed ME!?". Yelling that made it seem Ezio killed him.

Trivia

  • Though he is 76 when he dies he does not look it, while having wrinkles, he still has red/brown hair and no white.
  • His last words before death are depicted differently in the novel, Assassin's Creed: Renaissance. In this case, Mocenigo realizes that Carlo Grimaldi was the real culprit behind his murder and does not hold a grudge against Ezio.
