On 16 October 1866, Alexandra's mother-in-law, Queen Victoria, wrote a royal correspondence to Edward concerning the couple's trip to Saint Petersburg, Russia, for the wedding of Alexandra's sister Dagmar to Alexander III, strongly opposing the visit even if she felt it was natural Alexandra would want to see her family.[2]
