Franz Ferdinand (1863 – 1914) was the Austro-Hungarian Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia, and from 1896 to his death, the heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne.

On 28 June 1914, he was assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip of the Serb nationalist group, the Black Hand. The assassination increased political tensions in Europe, resulting in the beginning of the First World War.[1]

In 2012, Ferdinand was included in a mnemonic set in Abstergo Industries' Project Legacy.[2]
