The Forty Thieves Hideout was the base camp of the Forty Thieves and their leader, the King of Thieves, that was situated in the southwestern part of the Wilderness of Baghdad in the 9th century.
History
In the 860s, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq and Ali Baba's daughter Murjana ventured towards the hideout in search of her missing father. Spotting several thieves outside, Basim offered to deal with the guards. After he took them out, they both found Ali Baba dead near the hideout's door. Saddened, Murjana and Basim left with Ali Baba's body before more thieves came and found them.[1] As the thieves later attempted to kill Murjana in Baghdad, Basim protected her and decided to deal with their leader.[2]
Returning to the hideout, Basim came to the doorway and repeated the phrase he had seen on a document found among Ali Baba's belongings. This opened the door, allowing Basim to enter the hideout. Making his way past the guards, the Hidden One found the King of Thieves interrogating one of his henchmen while surrounded by their loot. Instantly, Basim assassinated the King of Thieves and his men, moments before Murjana arrived. Relieved that the thieves would not bother her anymore, Murjana revealed her plans to travel the world to Basim and gifted him the King of Thieves' sword before they parted ways.[3]
