The Feuillants Club was a monarchist offspring of the Jacobin Club during the French Revolution.
History
Like most other groupings in the National Assembly, the Feuillants had origins in the revolutionary Jacobin Club. Unlike the Jacobins, they opposed the complete abolition of the French monarchy, hoping for a system in which the king shared power with the Assembly. In June 1791, King Louis XVI and the royal family attempted to escape Paris in what became known as the flight to Varennes, hoping to initiate a counter-revolution. This effectively undermined the influence of the Feuillants.
