The Alban Hills (Italian: Colli Albani) are a region of volcanic hills that are located 20 kilometres southeast of Rome, Italy.
History
The dominant peak of the Alban Hills, Monte Cavo, has two lesser calderas, containing Lake Albano and Lake Nemi. Roman generals frequently used its summit after victories during the time when doing so was illegal in Rome itself.[1]
By the early 1500s, Cesare Borgia had established a weapons factory in the area, manufacturing chariot-mounted machine guns designed by Leonardo da Vinci. In 1502, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze broke into the factory, burning the machine's plans[2] and destroying the two prototype machines.[3]
