Biography

Capture by Eivor

In the late 9th century, the village Edward's church was in was attacked by a Viking raid coming from the nearby forest. The guards shut the gate and prepared for battle, though Eivor Varinsdottir and an ally had already managed to infiltrate the church. Eivor went into the copyists' chamber and gave Edward the choice between going with her or losing his hands. He chose the former and Eivor dragged him out of the church before setting fire to it.[1]

Edward held at swordpoint by Eivor

Edward asked if they were going to take the treasure, to which Eivor responded that they had surveilled the monastery for weeks and Edward was the true treasure, being the best copyist of the region. Fights had broken out between the guards and the attacking Vikings, now also attacking from a longship, but the pair of infiltrators escorted Edward to the wall overlooking the river. Edward questioned Eivor about what they would do to him if the ransom was not paid, to which she responded in jest that he could hazard a guess considering how much the monks wrote on Vikings. When the longship passed in the river beneath them, the trio jumped.[1]

At Ravensthorpe

The Hidden One Hytham took Edward under his wing when he arrived at Ravensthorpe, working in his bureau. Edward recognized a hermetic language of occult appearance in the bureau as the same as found in the parchments of his late brother Ecbert. Seeking to understand the reasons behind his brother's suicide, Edward sought help from Hytham, so proposed to send him to Lunden accompanied by Niels, a young Viking warrior. There they investigated a cult with troubling practices, eventually following the clues to Scotland.[2]
