al-Qaeda is a pan-Islamist jihadist militant organization founded in 1988.

History

al-Qaeda played a central role in the War on Terror following the September 11 attacks of 2001 in the United States. During the Iraq War, an affiliated group was responsible for various insurgent activities, including the 4 December 2004, suicide bombing near the Green Zone in Baghdad.[1][2] In November 2013, the hacktivist group Erudito was compared to al-Qaeda in terms of structure, in a Lewis County newspaper containing a report on a digital bank heist effecting banks globally.[3]

Behind the scenes

In the newspaper cutting found in the Abstergo Data of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the organization is misspelled as "Al-Quaeda".
