Dur-Kurigalzu was an ancient city in Mesopotamia west of Baghdad that served as the former capital of the Kassite Empire
History
Allegedly founded by King Kurigalzu II in the 14th century BCE, the city replicated the terraced ziggurats typical of the Kassite's Achaemenid forbearers. Aside from the royal palace, the large city was also known for its 69-meter tall ziggurat fortress. Around 1155 BCE, the city fell to the neighboring Elamites.[1]
