Drina (died. 876) was a Byzantine servant who worked in the emperor's palace in Constantinople in the 9th century. In 876, during one night in the palace, two vipers were set loose onto the palace's grounds and were intended to kill Leo, son of Emperor Basil. However, one of the vipers caught sight of and attacked Drina, who died from the viper's bite. Her body was found by the Byzantine Hidden One Hytham, who was posing as a Varangian guard and slew the vipers.[1] The following morning, the other servants removed her body from the grounds.[2]
