Doomsday is a memory in the Bonfire of the Vanities DLC pack for Assassin's Creed II.
Description
The Preacher is one of Girolamo Savonarola's lieutenants causing chaos among the Florentine people. He claims that Savonarola is the prophet who will lead his followers to the Kingdom of God, and that in order to do so, the people would have to give up all forms of material pleasure and progressive thoughts. He says that Savonarola told him that even though Plato and Aristotle had given many arguments against the heretics, they along with many philosophers were in Hell. When he sees that the crowd does not believe in his words, he reminds them about how the Romans had made the same mistake by being doubtful of Jesus Christ.
Dialogue
- Preacher: People of Firenze! Come! Gather round. Listen well to what I say! The end approaches! Now is the time to repent! To beg God's forgiveness.
Ezio begins to make his way towards the Preacher.
- Preacher: Dont you see?! The SIGNS are all around us: Unrest! Famine! Disease! Corruption! These are the harbringers of DARKNESS! We must stand firm in our devotion lest they CONSUME US ALL! I see you doubt; that you think me mad. Ahhh... but did the Romans not say the same to Gesù? (Jesus?) Know that I too once shared your uncertainty. Youre fear. But that was before Savonarola came to me. He showed me the TRUTH! At last, my eyes were OPENED. And so I stand before you today in the hope that I might open yours as well!
Ezio assassinates the Preacher
- Ezio: Your mind... I sense it is your own.
- Preacher: Not all of us required deception to be convinced. I already believe. All I said is true.
- Ezio: Nothing is true. Non è un compito facile il mio... Requiescat in pace. (This is not an easy thing I do... Rest in peace.)
Outcome
Upon assassinating the preacher, he reveals to Ezio that he wasn't under the influence of the Artifact. The Medici guards assume control of the area.
